Abundant Village is an engine for social and economic change.

An Abundant Village is an eco-friendly village built from the ground up that brings the most needed resources to most underserved communities that surround it. This includes clean water, food, energy, housing, childcare, healthcare, education, and job opportunities.

Each village is self–sustaining and will generate enough income to cover its own ongoing expenses.

Our mission is to build or expand 100 Abundant Villages in the most vulnerable communities, around the planet.

Additionally, in collaboration with other organizations, not only do we want to create an Abundant Village but we make existing villages, more abundant.

“Those who say it cannot be done are often interrupted by those doing it.”

-James Baldwin

Vision:

Our vision is a prosperous future where basic human needs are met for vulnerable communities and a thriving natural world.

Mission:

Abundant Village drives positive social impact and development through community-led partnerships in and alongside some of the world’s poorest areas that lie near critical ecosystems. By transforming surviving into thriving, humanity and nature can coexist.

Why we do what we do:

Poverty and social injustice are accelerating an unsustainable demand for natural resources and wild lands, fuelling a climate crisis across the planet. Strategic impact partnerships with local and indigenous communities play a critical role in creating long term human-nature balance.

It is time to take massive action to address challenges for our fellow citizens.

What we do:

We partner with communities to create strategic plans based on their needs to implement key services and critical infrastructure. We provide Minimal viable income models to minimal viable resource models.

In building out these systems, lasting local solutions foster resilient, thriving communities.

 Our Guiding Principles

  • Trust built on shared values, lasting long-term relationships and measured impact.

  • Listening to community priorities to define their own thriving future.

  • Fostering balanced interdependence between communities and ecosystems.

  • Sharing knowledge and resources reciprocally.

  • Valuing traditional and cultural knowledge.

  • Collective community well-being built to radiate out.

  • Partnerships for building resilience in collaboration.

  • Gender and Equity Rights for equality and strengthening humanity.

South Africa

Our Pilot Demonstration Village, Bushbuck Ridge, Mpumalanga

In partnership with MoveMe Studio, the creation of the first Abundant Village will be filmed and documented to find and showcase the best ideas we have about living together. Our goal is to scale the model and share it with others eager to solve these similar challenges  around the world.

Our Demonstration Village – Located in the Limpopo Region near Kruger National Park, in partnership with the Shangaan King these 10 hectares (22 acres) will include:

  • Clean Water – We will dig wells and boreholes to provide enough clean water for the village and the surrounding communities.

  • Nutrition Programs - Partnering with Kingdom Foods to provide good tasting, nutritious food for about $0.25/person/day. We are also speaking with aquaponic companies to provide indoor, low water, farming solutions for healthy fruits and vegetables.

  • Affordable Energy – Working with local or regional solar and wind power providers as well as partnering with safe, battery backup suppliers.

  • Housing and Buildings – Where buildings just need repairs, paint and utilities, we will provide supplies and partner with locals to enhance and improve them. When new construction is necessary, we will partner with companies specializing in rapid-building solutions, offering cost-effective and sustainable options for building clinics, schools, housing, and other essential structures.

  • Health Clinic - Leverage healthy foods, exercise, and natural, local remedies. We will plant a medicinal garden with herbs and plants with healing properties.

  • Education – Based on the needs of each community, we will partner with online and local providers to deliver tailored, educational content.

  • Job Opportunities – Based on local skills and needs, we will create jobs in remote customer service, admin support, technical support, packaging and delivery services, entrepreneurship, and ecommerce businesses. We will hire local construction professionals for projects and mentor young people in the trades.

Where We Currently Work

Abundant Village used available data to identify the 161 critical ecosystem landscapes across Africa which are key to meeting the global 30x30 challenge. Using a matrix of assessment metrics and prioritising strategic opportunism as key to entry, 4 initial areas were selected for project implementation as we continue to move around the globe.

1: South Africa - Kruger National Park

Alongside the iconic Kruger National Park in South Africa’s Limpopo Provence, Abundant Village has partnered with the Shangaan Royal Family to develop a full community of sustainable resources and services. With the land development finalised and construction commenced, this project is scheduled for completion in late 2024 when it will service 12 surrounding communities and 25,000 people. The impact will play a key role in building alternative livelihoods, and combat poaching in Kruger, home to the world’s largest rhinoceros population.

Pipeline Projects:

3: Mozambique - Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park

4: Zimbabwe - Sebungwe Region Ecosystem

5: Northern Kalahari

6: Papua New Guinea

7. Puerto Rico

8. Butan

9. Philippines

2: Zimbabwe – Lower-Zambezi Valley

Working with traditional leadership in the communities who live alongside one of the worlds largest remaining elephant populations, Abundant Village partnered with Akashinga to: Rebuild two kindergartens, electrify a rural hospital, supply fresh water to a local high school, two local communities, and the hospital. These facilities and infrastructure service over 15,000 people daily, playing a critical role in social impact which drives local conservation and has helped contribute to a 90% reduction in elephant poaching across the region.
