5 Ways to Be Kind to Others in 2022

In our blog 5 Ways to Be Kind to Yourself in 2022, the MoveMe team shared ways in which we will be looking inwards this year and practicing kindness towards ourselves.

In this blog we will be looking outwards, exploring ways we can be kind to one another in this New Year.

Life is all about balance after all!

Oftentimes it is easy to think that being kind to others involves gifts, or spending money. While gifting and treating others with material things is one way to express our kindness, there are many more ways to give kindness to people we love and respect that don’t cost a cent.

Let’s explore Ways to Show Kindness to Others in 2022:

Ask Questions, And Listen

Asking questions, listening to the answers and engaging in a conscious and present conversation is one of the kindest things you can do. Whether you strike up a conversation with a stranger while you are stranding in a queue, or call an old friend and say: ’tell me what’s happening in your world, I want to know everything!.

Asking considerate questions and genuinely listening to the response Is a really beautiful thing to do. Especially in the last few years, with the pandemic, lockdowns and social restrictions people all around the world have been feeling increasingly lonely and isolated. Asking someone ‘how are you’ and really meaning it, is one of the greatest acts of kindness we can do at this time.

Give Genuine Compliments

It is very true that a simple compliment can change someone’s day. Compliments are an authentic way to show our appreciation to the people we interact with on a day to day basis. One way to show kindness is to give compliments.

We can compliment someone’s energy, their ideas, their commitment to a project, their friends or their work. While it is easy to compliment someone’s appearance, challenge yourself to compliment people in a variety of ways. It not only makes them feel good but also encourages you to tap into what you are grateful for. Gratitude is another really important type of kindness.

Think of the Earth

We all share one planet and we are, undeniably, living in a climate crisis. One of the most impactful ways you can show your kindness to many people is by doing as much as you can to take care of earth.

For some of us that might look like taking public transport more often, rather than driving alone. For some people it might look like doing more recycling, or cutting down on food waste. For other people it might be supporting environmental organisations by volunteering time, or attending a fundraising event.

If you want to show your kindness to the masses, moving through the world with earth in mind is highly impactful.

Uplift the Work of Others

This may sound simple but uplifting the work of others is a wonderful way to show your kindness. This can be done in many ways. You can be a cheerleader for your friends by mentioning their name when a fitting opportunity arises. You can share small businesses and creative’s work on your social media. You can send articles, podcasts, blog posts and videos that you find inspiring to friends and family members who share the same interests. You can also give 5-star ratings and leave a positive one line review.

There are millions of incredibly talented people out there and uplifting, celebrating and sharing the work and creations of people you find inspiring is a very kind thing indeed. Remember, you don’t have to have a following for your sharing to make a difference. The very act of bringing creations into the eye-line of even one new person can have a profound impact in bringing people together.

Thoughtful Gestures

It really is the little things in life that make a difference. Whether it’s making a co-worker a cup of coffee in the office, or offering to refill their water bottle as you head to the water cooler. Whether it’s sending thank you cards to people who have helped you, or attended an event you hosted. Whether it is buying flowers for someone who is feeling a little down, or keeping a note of your friends favourite cafe and taking them for a mate-date, thoughtful little gestures are an endearing and easy way to show your kindness to the people in your life that you love and respect.

Are You Compelled to Take Action?

Keeping an eye out for the opportunity to do a random act of kindness is a fun game to play with yourself and can make a world of difference to the person on the receiving end.

In the coming week keep your kindness radar on high alert, when the opportunity for a random act of kindness strikes - take it! You will be amazed how many chances you will have to be kind now you are actively looking for it.

MoveMe would love to know how you are practicing kindness to yourself and others as we head into 2022.
